Wow that’s a difficult one to answer in a few lines but here goes.
Your right there is a lot of rubbish out there. but there is a lot of good stuff too.
The main problem i found when i started out with affiliate programs is that many are just run by webmasters who add an affiliate program in the hope that we sell product for them, end of. The tools and tutorials available in these programs leave a lot to be desired. They promise fantastic commissions but have poor converting websites and then when nothing happens the affiliate moves on to another product to sell and then just continues to bounce from one product to another meaning that he/she never earns at bean. At least this was the scenario i encountered.
In my opinion, the best way to learn this business is to learn from other master affiliates. If you can find programs run by affiliates with lots of tutorials, support, cutting edge tools and above all good converting products, you are on to a good thing. These are people who have succeeded in this business.
Next, there should be no reason for you to pay anything to get involved with these products or programs. Many of these free programs have an optional paid upgrade and that’s fine, we’re all in this to make money ultimately, but you will be able to check out the programs for free and quickly make an informed decision as to whether it’s your ‘thing’.

This is totally free to join and gives you excellent tuition and ideas on how to start as an affiliate as well as marketing help such as ppc, seo, website building and content creation.
As for a really good affiliate program to join for average people, and believe me i consider myself very average, i totally recommend this, http://www.leadsleap.com/go/18852 This has to be one of the easiest ways to start earning decent commissions as an affiliate in my opinion. Again, totally free to join. There is an upgrade but you are never under pressure to upgrade and to tell you the truth would only need or want to once you are making good profits. Tons of video tutorials so you can literally watch, pause, implement and continue watching. Very easy. Plus they have a lot of good quality products to sell, but best of all you can build your own list of subscribers with this program, and anybody who has been looking to earn a living on line has heard saying ‘the money is in the list’. So true.
The thing to remember above all is firstly decide on your niche(s) and find quality products you like or are interested in, then stick to them and give it a real go i.e. promote the hell out of them.

If you are talking about online work at home programs, they are all scams! If you have to pay a fee, it’s a scam. If we could all make the kind of money they say you can make we would all be doing it and we would all be rich! If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
