Affiliate programs have become one of the most popular ways for companies to market their products and services online. A company also known as a ‘merchant’ offers a product or service. As an affiliate you sign up to promote the product. Your task is to send a stream of visitors to the company’s web site. You do this using a customized link that allows the company to identify which affiliate referred the visitor. Whenever a visitor sent by you buys the affiliate product, you earn a commission.
For example at ClickBank most of the affiliate products are e-books. Many of the e-books sell for $ 30 to $ 50 each, and affiliates typically earn 50% to 75% of that for referring a customer.
There are many places online to find good affiliate products. The first place to look is the major affiliate program networks such as Commission Junction, LinkShare, and ClickBank. You can also find many more independent affiliate products and an excellent forum for affiliates at AssociatePrograms.
There are lots of ways you can promote Affiliate Products and they are not all expensive. Many affiliates choose to promote affiliate products by placing advertisements at pay-per-click search engines. If you are on a tight budget, however, that might not be an option for you at the early stages of your new affiliate marketing business. But you can still use a number of other methods such as promote affiliate products using:
- Links from your own web pages
- Links from a blog. If you don’t have a blog you can start one free at Blogger.com
- Squidoo Lenses. You can set up Squidoo pages at zero cost.
- Writing free articles and linking to an affiliate landing page. You should post the article at free article directories such as EzineArticles and GoArticles.
Affiliate marketing is a great option if you to start an online business but have complete control over your costs. Once some commissions come in you could consider other techniques such as Pay-Per-Click.

Try learning to swing trade or day trade with your extra money. Get a brokerage account, study, practice trading on paper for a while. I started doing it while out of work earlier this year and now I view it as the career for the rest of my life. Pennie stocks are worth a look!

Not really, unless you have a great site to advertise on that thousands of people visit daily. It’s a rough go in affiliate marketing, the good thing is the required investment is usually really small (if any) – and that’s exactly why the market is saturated today.
I’m not saying you can’t make money but you probably won’t make as much as you want to make. Too many players in a small game…I say do it but get a back-up plan ready.
I work for a media company that wants me to initiate an affliate network structure. At the moment I work in SEM but I have had no experience of affiliate marketing. I need to know the very basics about where and how to start building this from scratch. And, does anyone know what sort of timescale I would be looking at for initial implimentation? It will be focused on the finance industry. Particularly B2B.

Yes you can but if you are using Google’s PPC is it getting harder to direct link. Your cost per click may be to high to be profitable untill you use a landing page relevent to your ads.

I want to create a retail Online Shopping Mall with Affiliate Programs Products and my own Products,so how to use the shopping cart that covers both.
If all the products are going to be sold by you from the same website then the shopping cart would cover both. I have never known a website with more than 1 shopping cart feature.

They should have given you a snippet of code for your site for a banner add etc.
Go back to the affiliate site and you should see something there.
They should give you some HTML to put onto your website. That way they know that the person was directed to their website from yours. At least that’s what my affiliates did.
I am somewhat new to affiliate marketing and I am not sure if I need a landing/squeeze page when I am using ppc. I am not interested in building a list just yet.

That’s an easy one! hostgator.com has an incredible affiliate program that has a stepped commission bracket depending upon how many commissions you bring in within a month – hence, you paid more per commission with the more commissions that you make within a month!
Have you tried any other affiliate programs? I belong to one that is kicking **** with their offers and conversions, pays weekly, and only makes money when you make money! They have support available all day through MSN/AIM, and you get all kinds of incentives to perform! Not only do you get individual performance incentives, but there are monthly competitions as well to get all kinds of cool stuff if you should win!

creating a site just for affiliate advertising would not be too worthwhile, although there are plenty.
a site SHOULD have your passion invested in it. that is, it should be about something you are very interested in.
why? because google and the lesser search engines can detect your skill and enthusiasm in the way you write your pages.
the best affiliate program i have found so far is GOOGLE ADWORDS. you simply paste some code on your page, and they do the rest.
they have no criteria beyond that the site may not be pornographic, or promote illegal activity.
the only limit is that they will not pay you until you have $ 100 in accumulated revenue.
Your best bet is to ensure that you have a “tasteful” site, with no porn, no links to casinos or online gambling.
Various advertisers have different requirements, so you basically have to apply for each one. Some advertisers have a minimun traffic requirement, or perhaps they just don’t feel your site fits with their product line. The best way to find out is simply to apply to them.
There are some companies that work with advertisers to develope affiliate programs, and working with publishers (that would be you).
